When was the vacuum cleaner invented? Maybe the 1920s? 1900s?
Unbelievably, vacuum cleaners were used before domestic electricity was available. Manual cranks powered them and bellows in the 1860s. Electric vacuum cleaners were first introduced towards the end of the 19th century when domestic electricity was produced and distributed. They weren’t portable, inexpensive, or very good at removing dirt.
In the early 20th century, many inventions promised to make housework easier. But none of them took off. In 1907, James Spangler, a cleaner at a department shop, invented the bagged vacuum cleaner, which would be the model for the following 100 years. He sold his design to Hoover because he lacked the money to manufacture and sell it himself.
The vacuum cleaner was such a success that the British term “hoover,” which means a vacuum cleaner, has been adopted.
We live in a time when almost every household has a vacuum cleaner. Things have never been more clean. When it comes to vacuuming and commercial cleaning, we get a lot of questions from potential clients as well as our team.
Let’s look at the vacuum cleaners used for commercial cleaning. What makes a commercial vacuum cleaner good?
What is the “best” commercial vacuum?
There’s really no perfect tool for every job. A domestic vacuum cleaner can be used in an emergency. Commercial vacuum cleaners are designed to be used for long cleaning sessions rather than short bursts of time, like those associated with household cleaning. Some vacuum cleaners are both wet and dry. They can pick up spills while not getting clogged. It’s hard to choose a bad option these days, despite the wide range of options available.
One vacuum cleaner is in almost every office or shop you’ve visited.
Numatic NRV 240-11, also known as Henry Henry)
Henry is the little red vacuum that you see in every store and office. Why is this machine so popular in commercial cleaning, despite the fact that it hasn’t changed much since 1981?
The answer is simple. The dust collector is cheap, has a very basic design, and is powerful. It can hold up to nine liters before it needs to be emptied. It can be carried with one hand and thrown in a cabinet when you are done. It will continue to work. Fixing it when it fails is cheap and easy. It is bagless, clean, and quiet.
This vacuum cleaner does not vacuum wet or dry. Some versions can, but this is usually not an issue for office cleaning.
Henry is not the only commercial vacuum on the planet. There are literally hundreds of choices. Henry offers all the features commercial cleaners want at an affordable price. So, “Henry,” like Hoover in the household cleaning industry, has become synonymous with commercial vacuum cleaners.
Henry vacuum cleaners come with a corded power cable of 10m. Is this a good thing?
Cordless or corded?
Corded commercial vacuum cleaners tend to be more common, even though they are harder to maneuver and present a trip risk. Corded vacuums are preferred because they are more reliable and allow for more powerful designs. They also have advantages over battery-powered models in terms of cost, weight, and time.
You can’t charge a cordless cleaner between cleaning jobs if, for example, you are on the go and have to do a lot of commercial cleaning in one day. Even if it were possible, the power would not be enough to clean a floor in a typical office. The extra weight of the batteries would negate any advantage in maneuverability, and you’d be forced to compromise on power, battery life, and dust capacity.
There will be a cord, but the ability to plug in the vacuum and then go is an advantage. You can reduce the risk of trip hazards by working safely.
Who supplies the vacuum cleaner? The cleaner or the customer?
Professional commercial cleaners will gladly provide their vacuum cleaners, especially for jobs that are highly frequent and specialized. Most offices and shops already have a vacuum on hand to clean up spills between scheduled cleanings.
If the customer does not have a vacuum cleaner, you can bring yours. If they have one, then use it. Before the contract starts, make sure they are happy and that you have agreed on who will use what equipment.
There will be times when a vacuum cleaner is not enough – for example, when the carpets are so dirty, a deeper cleaning may be required.
A professional carpet cleaning system is needed. Of course, the customer will not be expected to supply this equipment.
We have invested in the latest deep carpet cleaning technologies, using the hot water extraction technique. The hot water extraction method gives carpets an intense, deep clean. It removes not only the visible dirt but also bacteria and germs that are hidden.
* If we provide the vacuum cleaner to the customer, we also perform a PAT (Power Analysis Test) on it every year, as this is required for safety and health reasons.
