A Look at steam cleaner and disinfections

Cleaning and disinfection became more important to cleaning companies as well as the general public. Chemical disinfectants, used, overused, or misused, have increased concerns about toxic chemicals, antimicrobial resistance, and exposure to pesticides. There was a renewed focus on other disinfection methods, including steam and UV light. Take a look at Steam.

Steam has been used as a disinfectant for many years. Autoclaves, for example, sterilize surgical instruments by using high-temperature Steam under pressure. This takes about 20 minutes. Steam is also a very popular cleaning agent and can be used in both steam mops and dry steam generators. Steam mops do not act as disinfection tools and are not advertised as such. However, dry steam vapor machines have suddenly become a viable alternative to chemical disinfectants. Steam can be used to kill or inactivate bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. However, it is not enough to pass Steam over the surface.

What is a dry vapor steam generator? A dry steam vapor generator is a machine that uses a boiler to superheat water and create Steam with low moisture, usually around 5%. The size, smoke, water heat, and pressure of the units vary greatly. Other teams are non-pressurized and have a reservoir tank that can be continually refilled. Some have a boiler, which allows them to run for fewer refills before repressurizing. Most of these units are capable of doing a good job at cleaning. But now, many of them claim that they can disinfect. But are they really effective disinfection tools?

A unit that is to be considered as a disinfection tool must demonstrate a reduction in the pathogen target of 99.99% within a specified time. The EPA must receive the results of these tests in order to issue an Establishment Number, which will be displayed on each unit. Any company that claims to disinfect their machines should be able to provide their test results. Others are referring not to their studies but to published ones that were conducted on specific machines. You must consult the manufacturer’s tests on the device you are considering when you are searching for a disinfection machine.

Sadly, when I examined the websites of major players in the sector, only two had test results. The results of one test were limited and showed disinfection only after 30 seconds. This is the time that was assumed to be needed for disinfection. A 30-second exposure is not realistic, as it could damage surfaces and would take a long time to disinfect a large area. Advap.com provided detailed test results that backed up its claims of rapid sanitation. (3-7 seconds!). This contact time is more realistic and allows for more effective disinfection. Their proprietary Thermal system is the difference.

They claim that the Accelerated Nano Crystal Sanitation system (TANCS(r)) allows for rapid disinfection. The tests are EPA-approved and clearly state the EPA Establishment Number. On the website, you can also find three peer-reviewed studies that show some incredible results with their system. Some manufacturers have misrepresented themselves by citing these studies, which are specific to TANCS-equipped systems.

Check the test results that the manufacturer uses to support their claims, especially if it is a contractor or an in-house service provider making disinfection claims.

Don’t be afraid to negotiate.

Asking a client why they want to leave is not a sign of arrogance. Instead, negotiate with them what you would like to see in return. Negotiate a lower price or offer an additional cleaning service or an extra room. If you can keep them, it’s better not to lose them.

Your cleaning business will find success if you keep your clients. You can grow your cleaning business by maintaining a steady stream of clients. Set realistic expectations and follow up on feedback. Provide a high-end, consistent cleaning experience. If you follow these steps, your cleaning business will be able to increase client retention quickly.
